Wildcats buzz-kill the Bees

Last Saturday evening the Swindon Wildcats delivered a superb local derby fixture as they overcame the visiting Bracknell Bees.

After picking up a 8-1 victory on the road last weekend, the ‘Cats were quick to keep the momentum going as they opened the night’s action.

Import Jaroslav Cesky was first to net for Swindon, as a received pass across the face of goal was put away with a forceful one timed shot. However minutes before the period was out Bracknell did find a tying goal as a powerplay opportunity led to the Bee’s Bowman deflecting a pass in on net and pass netminder Murdy.

Despite a 1 – 1 score line, the second period was soon to bring more goals as both teams continued to pressurise and look to find an edge in the local derby game. 9 minutes into the period and it would Swindon’s Watt who would find that next goal, as yet another one timed shot would beat the opposing netminder Ambler, after a break out led the ‘Cats up the ice. Moments on and a powerplay opportunity then led to the in-form Aaron Nell finding the net for the home side once more, with a wrist shot sailing through a screen of players for a third goal.

A Bracknell goal that was eventually finished through import Jasik and his tapped effort in front of net meant for an ever more interesting game, however Swindon were to find yet another goal before the period was out.

A good break out by import Jonas Höög led to a rush up ice and with a pass to player/coach Ryan Aldridge, a fourth goal was seen as the puck flew over a sprawled goaltender. A third period made for a dominant display by the ‘Cats, as they took the upper hand in the final twenty minutes of an exciting fixture battle. Three minutes into the third and import Michal Pinc found a defining fifth for Swindon, having deked the goaltender several times to eventually wrist shot over an Ambler pad.

Rounding off the evening, import Cesky then put away a sixth goal after sliding the puck past the netminder and giving the Wildcats a 6 – 2 scoreline to end the game.

Despite only a single point dividing the two sides prior to the game, the Swindon Wildcats displayed a great home effort this night and were deserved winners of a superb two point victory. Being the only game of the weekend the ‘Cats now have a rest until next weekend when they hit the road for two away trips to the MK Lightning and the Telford Tigers.
