Short staffed Stingrays fall to Clan

Three final-period goals consigned depleted Excel Hull Stingrays to a 4-2 defeat to Braehead Clan at Braehead Arena in the Rapid Solicitors Elite League.

Stingrays were already without injured trio Ryan Lake, Tristan Harper and Dmitry Rodin but they were also missing Jack Watkins and Daniel Scott, who are on Great Britain Under-20 duty in Germany.

On top of that, captain Josh Mizerek was absent too, leaving Stingrays with just three defencemen and eight forwards.

After a scoreless first period, Jereme Tendler put Stingrays ahead just 26 seconds into the second session.

Brock McPherson levelled for Clan with three minutes of the period remaining before two goals from former National Hockey League forward Jordan Krestanovich inside three minutes of the final period put the hosts in charge.

Mike Bayrack stretched Clan’s advantage before Tendler pulled one back on the powerplay for Stingrays with 72 seconds remaining.

Stingrays will now look to bounce back to winning ways when they head to Edinburgh Capitals tomorrow night.
