Muir brings more to Fife’s roster

Defenceman Thomas Muir is the latest signing for the Fife Flyers ahead of the 2013/14 Rapid Solicitors Elite Ice Hockey League campaign.

27-year-old Muir returns to Fife for his 12th season with the side, and will and will no doubt want to add to his 278 appearances since his debut.

Head coach Todd Dutiaume is happy to bring back a player who has grown up with the team: “I am delighted to be bringing Tommy back, he is one of the longest serving players we have here and knows what it means to play for this organisation.

“Over the last two seasons, Tommy has grown as a player and has justified his inclusion in our team and justified the amount of ice time has been given, especially last season when he played really well.

“Tommy has always played a physical role for us and has had the role of enforcer put on his shoulders, but this season we have a couple of other guys who will help take that burden off him so he can concentrate on the playing side more.”

Muir, who has played almost all of Fife’s EIHL games since joining the league in 2011, confirmed he is looking forward to the new season: “I have really enjoyed playing the last two seasons. We made great progress last year turning into a team which was capable of challenging any team in the league, but everyone wants to win and we fell just short of that last season. I think that has made everybody involved even more determined to go to the next step this coming season.

“This season I hope to contribute and help the team in anyway I can. We have a good group of guys already signed and I’m sure the new guys will fit right in and we can all get started at what we hope will be another enjoyable season.”
