WFTDA adds Sheffield Steel to its Ranks

The Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) has announed that Sheffield Steel Rollergirls have been accepted as a member.

The WFTDA is the international governing body for the sport of women’s flat track roller derby and a member organization for leagues to collaborate and network.

As a new member of the WFTDA, Sheffield Steel Rollergirls joins the ranks of 197 all-female, skater owned and operated leagues worldwide that have united to lead the sport of women’s flat track roller derby. After successfully completing the WFTDA Apprentice Program, they can now enjoy the benefits of full WFTDA membership, including the ability to compete in sanctioned games that qualify for WFTDA ranking.

The Sheffield Steel Rollergirls became the city’s first all female flat track roller derby league in 2008. Since then, the team have gone from strength to strength to train hard and play against some of the biggest teams in Europe, hosting some bouts in Sheffield and travelling around the country to play away bouts. Sporting not only a top A team but also a skilled B team and a large team of skaters at bout-ready level and training to get to that level, SSRG are a league of talent and determination that are set for great things.
