Welcome home!

If you live in or around the Cheshire area and want to get involved in playing American Football, the Crewe Railroaders have been granted associate status, and are looking for new players. The Railroaders actually began life in 1984 and their first ever game saw them beaten 50-13 by the Leamington Royals in a friendly. The Crewe side then went on to be part of the first season of compeitive American Football here in the UK.

The full history of the Railroaders is a fascinating story. So much so, that the team are going to be the subject of a film which begins shooting shortly. It is mooted that the film could star one or two very well known names, but whoever takes to the field in the movie, it is hopefully going to put the Crewe Railroaders and UK Gridiron on the map. You can read more about the history of the Railroaders here.

The Railroaders went on to compete for many seasons, but players began to leave for other clubs, and they last played competitively in 1990. There was always something going on though as Crewe player (and now a Railroaders’ coach) Gary Delaney, formed a new side in the area. Delaney and other former Railroaders got together more recently and decided it was time that Crewe had a team again, and their dream has become reality with the BAFACL granting them associate status.

If you share the passion of the Railroaders and want to join them, you couldn’t be in better company as the setup boasts 8 BAFCA qualified coaches. The next training session is this Sunday (April 24) at 12:40pm and they have plenty of spare kit for those who want to see how they get on. Training is held at King George V playing fields which are in West Street in Crewe. If you want to know more, or want to talk about joining the Railroaders then you can also give Ian Hollinshead a call on 07921 818411.

The Railroaders’ website has all the latest news, and information you need. It sounds like a great setup in Cheshire, and ukamericansportsfans wish them every success, and we hope to visit you all soon, in what is a very exciting time for everone associated with the Crewe Railroaders.
