Video: Cheshire’s Chez Marks last second shot vs Giants

In what can only be described as the most exciting and intense finishes to a game of basketball at the Northgate Arena; we finally have the video to give all the answers.

Paul Nash (aka Roadgiant to the masses online), one of the many willing and exceptional volunteers within the Cheshire set-up, who films and produces game night training videos, has posted the final moments of last weekend’s 83-81 victory.

Firstly – enjoy…

Now herein lies the many issues to arise, either solving, or generating more needless debate surrounding the end to the game.

1) It doesn’t matter in hindsight, but the three was a two. Sorry Chez, but it was…the slow mo don’t lie (still big love for ya still though – I’ve never seen a shot pulled out like that before!)

2) Referee’s view is not blocked by anyone, and clearly gives the two, not three. So I’m completely stumped as to why it was not given on the table as a two? Nevertheless, it doesn’t make a difference now. It’s Wednesday, not Sunday.

3) Jeff Jones does NOT call a time out. Again, the slow mo does not lie. I don’t see anything get called, do you? Eaves inbounds the ball straight off, not giving Jones time to even call one. Matter resolved right there methinks.

4) The Northgate Arena’s scoreboard shows the time in Mins:Secs and also in the final minute goes Secs:Tenths. There was, despite it saying 00:4 on the video, only 0.4 seconds remaining…

5) …however, some believe that there was more to go due to the table official not hitting the button quick enough. Possibly even a second lost? Reaction times differ depending on each human being, and the BBL isn’t the type of league that can review on playback whether or not there was time lost.

It’s all done with now though, the game has been played, one team won, one team lost. That’s basketball, and a hell of a long season still to go.

The result may even be null and void if Cheshire, now “Cheshire Phoenix”, don’t rise from the embers without the £50,000 needed by November 30th (I don’t feel “ashes” is appropriate yet, there’s still a team and supporters and hasn’t gone out completely)…

…or will they?
