Sharks Bask in Babalola

The One Health Sharks, Sheffield have released their initial signing for the 2011/12 season in the form of Great Britain big man Olu Babalola.

Babalola, who signed late with the Sharks for their second BBL Cup winning season in a row, quickly became a firm favourite with the club both on and off the court.

Despite a flurry of interest from home and abroad, the Sheffield forward took the early decision to remain at the club for a minimum of one more season and is the first in returning players.

” I had a great experience in my first season at Sheffield” said Babalola. “It took me a little while to settle into a team already formed but as the season went on I could see how better I could help Atiba and looking forward how we could improve as a team”.

The Sharks were delighted to retain the services of Babalola, who has featured in the GB programme and is one of the countries finest home grown talents.

Head Coach Atiba Lyons commented from his summer base in the United States, “This is a really great start for me to have Olu back on board, he not only is a talent on the court, but a great ambassador off the court”.

“Olu brings a great deal of composure to the team, and can step up enormously when we need him to. I feel being with us from the start of the season will be a great asset as he can establish his influence from the go with old and new players alike”.

Although the new season is some months away, Olu Babalola will be at the EIS in Sheffield this Friday in support of South Yorkshire Housing Associations RESPECT project. Supporting communities by encouraging young people to stay in sport.
