Rocks sign Di Maria In Through the Out Door

It’s one in and one out at the Glasgow Rocks as Italian-American Antonio Di Maria has signed for the Scottish side. The move comes on the back of the surprise departure of Marin Zelalija, who has returned to Croatia due to personal reasons.

26-year-old Di Maria is entering his second year as a professional having averaged 8.6 points per game for Spanish side Recinor Ferrol last season. Originally from Pittsburgh, Di Maria played college ball for the University of Utah and Emporia State. He was also named an All-State in his sophomore and senior years at Bishop Canevin High School in Pennsylvania.

Despite the late arrival, Rocks coach Sterling Davis insists that Di Maria can play a vital role in his team’s quest for silverware.

“Antonio is a guy that will bring us that added depth on the perimeter both offensively and defensively. He is very hard-nosed and plays with a chip on his shoulder – a type of player every team needs. We are excited about his potential in this league.”

Di Maria will make his Glasgow debut today as the Rocks entertain a USA Select side as part of a two-day invitational pre-season event that also features German ProA side MLP Heidelberg, led by ex-Mersey Tigers Tony Garbelotto.
