Promising Rider, Jamell Anderson, signed by TASS

Leicester Riders versatile forward, Jamell Anderson, confirmed via his Twitter account today, that he will be supported by TASS (Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme): A Government funded programme that helps provide young athletes balance their academic life with training and competing as an athlete.

As per the official TASS website:

“The programme was established in 2003 by the then Secretary of State, the Right Honourable Tessa Jowell MP, Department of Culture Media and Sport. Since 2004, when the first TASS awards were made, the scheme has invested over £24million into athletes and the supporting network around them, providing up to 6000 awards enabling thousands of talented athletes to fulfil their sporting potential and become medal winners of the future.”

Anderson, 22, has seen his career take-off since his move in 2011 from the Essex Pirates to the Jelson Homes DMU Leicester Riders; winning the Riders Most Improved Player Award for his contributions during his first season at the club, earning a new deal with the Riders and competing in FIBA’s inaugural 3-on-3 competition in Athens as part of the Great Britain team this past Summer.

Anderson has played in every Riders game during the 2012/13 season, helping the club remain unbeaten at 3-0 while averaging 14.3 minutes per game and shooting 58.9% from the field.
