Panthers recruit Anderson as cover for Werner

Nottingham Panthers moved quickly to get cover for top defenceman Eric Werner, Werner who suffered a broken leg in Fife last weekend after blocking a shot, is thought to be out for the next 6-8 weeks after having a cast fitted earlier in the week.

That cover has come in the form of 34 year old Nick Anderson a six foot American defenceman, he will look to fly into the country today and hopefully be ready and raring to face the Steelers and Devils this weekend.

Anderson comes with an impressive resume, (he will have big shoes to fill) having played three years in both  the East Coast Hockey League, Germany and two seasons in Italy.  The defenceman is versatile and can also play up front if needed.

Panthers’ head coach Corey Neilson added: “We snagged his signature and within hours he was packed and heading for the airport so his commitment to the cause is there for all to see.

“He’s enthusiastic to join us, and he understands the circumstances that led to his recruitment. He’ll be thrown in at the deep end with the Sheffield game but he knows European hockey and he has a North American background too.”
