No more Love for Plymouth Raiders

It was announced this morning by Plymouth University Raiders that they have terminated Gavin Love’s contract as head coach.

The BBL side made a short statement on their website outlining how the decision has come about.

“The Board has carried out a pre season review of all roles, and as a result, have passed a vote of no confidence in Gavin Love taking the club forward. We therefore had no alternative but to terminate his contract.”

Short and sweet, and although there is to be a further announcement on Monday regarding the matter, it does leave yet another club without a coach at the helm.

Love had already put together a side consisting of Andreas Schreiber, Donald Robinson, Ben Eaves, Gabe Haskins, Shane Walker, Jarvis Jones and most recently, Garrius Holloman, so it begs the question as to why the decision has been made so close to the start of the 2013/14 BBL season?

Next weekend sees two pre-season friendlies take place, another the following Friday, before the main event tips-off at home to London Lions on the 29th September.

Could the coaching merry-go-round see ex-Surrey Heat head coach Creon Raftopoulos come into the frame?

Many would be forgiven for linking the vacant position to him, especially considering the closing points in this morning’s announcement stating that they are “well known and respected as the bench mark for junior development and match night presentation”. Is junior development what they hope to focus in on under a new coaching set-up, or are the Plymouth organisation wanting to strengthen further this summer’s connection with Plymouth University?
