News from the Eagles nest

Prince for more than a day?

Following Charles Smith’s astonishing performance in Sunday’s BBL Cup Final, the word around the Newcastle Eagles camp is that unsurprisingly Fab Flournoy will be doing his utmost to persuade the veteran to return for the 2012/2013 campaign. He’s even gone so far to say that as long as he’s the coach there will always a place in the Eagles locker room for Charles. Given that he officially retired last summer it may be a big ask, but on behalf of all Eagles fans get your cheque book out Mr Blake. The League would be a weaker one without the man they call the Prince!

New Tattoo for Paul

Paul Gause revealed via his Twitter account earlier this week that the pleasure of the BBL Cup Final win was followed by a rather more painful ordeal in the form of a three and a half hour tattoo session. Ouch. The result looks pretty impressive much like his performance in the game itself! The tattoo features the legend ‘shoot for the stars’ which is a dedication to his recently deceased Grandmother, Clara Reeves, who used to encourage Gause with precisely this phrase. BBL Team of the Week

Newcastle Eagles memorable triumph over Plymouth Raiders in the BBL Cup Final has been recognised by the BBL with no less than three Eagles’ players appearing in the starting five. MVP Charles Smith appearance was a given but he was deservedly joined by Paul Gause and Andrew Bridge. It was Paul’s second appearance in as many weeks and his third of the season and welcome recognition for a livewire display off the bench with 24 points, three assists and two steals. Bridgey put in one of his best performances of the season with great numbers across the board, 16 points, four rebounds, three assists and three steals.
