Leeds Roller Dolls start 2013 season at new venue

After previously suffering from a lack of suitable venues within the city, Leeds Roller Dolls have announced they are getting back on the track.

The new Leeds @Futsal Arena accommodates as both a training ground and a venue to hold public bouts.

Leeds Roller Dolls were ranked 7th in Europe for 2012, following a sterling performance at the ‘Track Queens’ tournament in Berlin last year.

The first home bout of the 2013 season will be held on April 13th and will feature performances from both the A and B team.

The A team, the Rebel Roses, will face off against London Rollergirls’ Brawl Saints who were unbeaten until very recently. The corresponding bout last season became one of the most talked-about matches of 2012, with Leeds very nearly grabbing the victory.

The B team, The Whip-Its will be meeting Sheffield’s Crucibelles on track for the very first time in what will no doubt be The Battle of Yorkshire.

Together with a new venue, Leeds Roller Dolls also have a new sponsorship deal with Leeds-based company Awesome Merchandise providing banners for their new home at Futsal, together with branded merchandise, printed goods and their characterful brand of online support, via their huge social media network.

“Being able to hold our public bouts in Leeds again is a real boost for Leeds Roller Dolls and for the community, who no longer have to travel to another city to watch this exciting sport. Watching roller derby appeals to the whole family and we are looking forward to expanding our fan base in our home city again.” Hayley Avron, one of the line-up with the Roller Dolls, commented on the new home of the Yorkshire side.

“We are extremely excited to have entered into the sponsorship deal with Awesome Merchandise; their brand image and values fit perfectly with the world of roller derby and they have already provided us with invaluable support. We’re looking forward to building on our relationship with them once our bouting season commences” said Helen Tulloch, another member of the Leeds Roller Dolls.
