Jets looking to build on win over Trojans

The Coventry Jets travel to Telford on Saturday looking for their first back to back victories in almost two years.

Rookie Head Coach Paul Rickhuss secured his first win on Sunday as the Jets bossed the West Coast Trojans in a game dramatically affected by the weather. Rickhuss will be looking for more of the same from his young squad as he hopes to return to full strength after having more than a dozen players unavailable last weekend. A first ever meeting with the Shropshire Revolution awaits the Jets as they look for their first away win since the 2010 semi-final at Bristol.

Guards Krishan Sharma and Chris Sear, that started in the opening day defeat at Nottingham, will both be back. Sharma, who picked up an injury in warm-ups prior to the Trojans match, is eager to return to action in what’s already been a memorable year for the GB Junior International. Sear, who impressed in his rookie season last year, has recovered from a bout of food poisoning and should reclaim his starting spot. Adam O’Reilly, Mikey Bell, George Eremionkhale and Mohammed Elshami combined to fill in for the youngsters and all are available to keep the O-line fresh.

James Gascoigne is also set to return at cornerback after missing out with a niggle at the weekend. The Rugby youngster has impressed with his open-field tackling and boosts Coventry’s run defence at the edges. Jake Skelton, who suffered a hamstring strain against the Caesars, and TJ Chieza return to the linebacker core and will play prominent roles at the outside spots. The Jets youth and athleticism at the position helped keep star running back Jordan Falconer in check at the weekend and they’ll be looking for more of the same against a talented Revolution backfield.

Impressive all-rounder Thomas Singleton-Wells, who scored the Jets first touchdown of the season, returns and will be looking to build on his impressive debut showing at Nottingham. The young wide receiver will be hoping that the weather is better suited to the passing game than it was against West Coast. Running back Sean Hanlon also returns from injury but the game comes too soon for Jonny Muanza who’s expected to make his Senior team debut the following week against the Lancashire Wolverines. Elliott Strong filled in admirably for kicker/punter Josh Hughes but with the later available once again Strong can concentrate on his primary position of wide receiver. Finally, new signing Fraser Oliver is set for his debut as the Jets continue to add youth to the ranks.
