EIHL Preview: Giants at Devils – 5 October 2013

The Belfast Giants will return to Cardiff Bay Saturday night, as they look to continue their excellent form against the Devils.

In the last encounter between the two teams, the Giants took home the two points after beating the Devils 7-2 back in September.

The Giants have had a strong start to the season, as they currently sit second in the league standings and first in their Challenge Cup group. The Devils on the other hand have been missing their starting goaltender Dan LaCosta, who returned just last weekend after sitting out due to concussion. The Devils will be looking to expand on last Sunday’s win in Sheffield, as they hope to get their first home win of the season at the Big Blue Tent.

Giants’  captain Adam Keefe will return to the line-up for this clash, after serving a 3 match ban for checking to the head. Last time he was in Cardiff, Keefe scored two goals and won Man of the Match, and will once again be a big asset to the Giants team.

The Devils will be missing power forward Andrew Conboy as he sits out due to suspension. Conboy was assessed a six-match ban for abuse of official and has served three games so far.

Despite Giants’ exceptional form in Cardiff of late, this game will be extremely close to call. With LaCosta back between the pipes and the forward’s starting to find more offence in recent games, the Devils will be expected to battle hard from the drop of the puck, to get no less than two points.
