EIHL Preview: Clan at Devils – 14 September 2013

This Saturday, the Braehead Clan will make the long journey down to South Wales to face the Cardiff Devils at the Big Blue Tent. Last season, inconsistencies within the Clan camp ultimately led to the Devils taking the series 4-2.

However, tomorrow night’s clash will not be a walk in the park for either side, as over the off-season both teams have strengthened their rosters in both physicality and talent. New Clan Coach, Ryan Finnerty, has recruited a mixture of skill and toughness in this year’s squad, which will entertain the Purple Army and compete for silverware.

In fact, the Clan have already won silverware. They battled against the Nottingham Panthers and French side Amiens in pre-season, winning both matches and were crowned the 2013 Aladdin Cup Champions.

Into the first weekend of the Elite League and it was a different story for the Braehead Clan, as they lost both of their games to Dundee at home (1-2) and Hull away (5-2).

This weekend, the Clan will be bolstered by the arrival of former Devil Chris Frank, who arrived in Glasgow this week after a summer playing hockey in the Australian League. Shane Lust is also thought to be back in the line-up, as he missed last weekend due to a groin injury. The Clan will be one import short though, as Ray Macais will not make his way over the pond until next week.

Similarly, the Devils will be missing their starting netminder Dan LaCosta after he suffered a head injury last Saturday in Fife. Head Coach Gerad Adams has drafted in Hull Stingrays back-up Greg Blais, who will stand in for LaCosta while he recuperates.

This match will be another battle at the Big Blue Tent and with a large following of Clan fans making the trip down together with the Devils yet to win a match at home this season, both teams will be hungry to come out on top.
