Durham suffer another defeat

After failing to overcome the Plymouth Raiders at the Newton Aycliffe Leisure Centre on Saturday night Durham made the short trip over the border to face the Glasgow Rocks.

The Rocks got off to a slow start and Durham seemed to capitalize on it holding a 9-2 lead within the first four minutes. It was DJ Gavlan however who proved to be Durham’s spark as his 3 point shot put Durham 18-11 in front.

But Glasgow finally burst into life finishing the opening quarter of the game with a 10-3 burst to level the scores 21-21.

Durham managed to slow down the Rocks offence as they scored six of the first seven points in the second period, but after a steady performance in defence by the Wildcats, the Rocks got into the swing of it again with an 18-5 run to take the scores to 40-32 at the interval.

As the second half of the game unfolded both teams traded baskets with neither of them being be able to close the game out.  A late timeout by Dave Elderkin seemed to be Durham’s undoing as the Rocks took the iniative outscoring their opponents 8-2 to finish the quarter 63-44.

The late surge by the Rocks seemed to kill off Durham’s chances as they could only answer a 14 point accumulation by Glasgow with two points of their own. That run helped the Rocks seal the game and take the two points.
