Dolly Rockits looking to build on Romsey win

The Dolly Rockit Rollers will be looking to kickstart their season next weekend as they take on the Birmingham Blitz Dames at Parklands.

The Leicester team have had something of a tough start to 2012, with some close games going against them (most notably May’s double overtime thriller against Big Bucks) and the loss of some key skaters hitting their jam rotation hard. However, their recent 151-120 away win over a spirited Romsey team was a step in the right direction, as a new look DRR side muscled their way to victory in an intensely physical game. Their most recent group of Raggy Dollz B-team skaters has matured at just the right time for the league, giving the DRR selectors a great selection of new options on both sides of the jam line.

Veterans of the UK roller derby scene, Birmingham enter the matchup with one of their strongest looking lineups for some time. 2012 has seen some success for the Blitz Dames, as they followed January’s battling performance against cross-town rivals and WFTDA giants Central City with good wins over Croydon and Huddersfield’s Hot Wheel Roller Derby. They will likely bring a potent attacking threat to Leicester, with their A team roster including two internationals in the form of England’s Violet Attack and Ireland’s Roisin Roulette.

Previous form is on the Dollies’ side, with the only previous encounter between the teams ending in a reasonably comfortable 120-87 DRR win back in October 2011, but ten months is a long time in roller derby and the teams that take to the track next week will be markedly different than the ones that skated in that bout. Birmingham will have an unquestionable experience advantage, but if DRR can stick to their game and force mistakes as effectively as they did against Romsey they will have a real chance of picking up their first back to back wins of 2012.

The bout takes place on August 4th at Parklands Leisure Centre, Oadby. Tickets are priced at £7 and are available from dollyrockitrollers.bigcartel.com.
