Denver Broncos 17 Kansas City Chiefs 10

Wow. There is only one thing I can say about this game and that is I told you so. Now let me elaborate as most, if not all will be reading this and thinking, what is he on about, this is his first post.

When I sent my sample post over to write for the site, I went in to detail about what I believe are Denver’s biggest issues as to why theyare struggling this season, especially with Tim Tebow as starting quarter back. I believed that if certain things didn’t change then the season would pretty much be over and with it maybe Tebow’s career in Denver.

What needed changing in my view was the set up for the offensive line for Tebow. They were still running the line and the plays as if Kyle Orton was starting quarter back. Orton and Tebow’s styles are completely different and they have different qualities. Tebow is known for more rushing plays, including using himself for plenty of yards and we did not see enough of this in the first two games as starting quarter back. One game they won (just!) and the other they got walked all over.

I believe Tebow could be a good QB and can actually throw, but I believe he should limit his throwing of the ball at least until he has built up a relationship with his offensive line. Now when I say relationship, I am not suggesting they don’t like each other, I mean for Tebow to get in tune with what  the other members of the O-line think and for them to learn to read each other.

In the first game, there seemed to be lack of protection for Tebow and he obviously needs protection so that so he can have the time to think and deliver the play. He should not be worrying where the next hit is coming from, which is what it looked like he was doing. I do believe this relationship has been getting better due to time, but it needs more work and isn’t quite there yet.

Something that will speed this along is winning. By winning games, there will be more confidence and more camaraderie. Players will enjoy themselves and have a good time with each other. This will help them communicate and build up an understanding of what the other guy thinks.

During this weekend’s game the Broncos pretty much just ran the ball all day. There was only eight thrown passes of which only two were completed, but hey they won the game. It might not look good, but it’s a win, and with a win comes more confidence, and with more confidence comes that improve relationship I have been talking about and a better level of performance.

Personally as a fan of the Broncos I don’t care if they only run for the rest of the season, as long as they win. There will be a time when they need to throw, and that can be a surprise play that opponents won’t expect and can also be worked on slowly and over time. For now though, they just need to keep in contention and win.
