BBL Breaking News: Owumi agrees Worcester return

Worcester Wolves fans will be delighted to hear the news that the versatile small forward Alex Owumi will be playing his basketball in the new Worcester Arena for 2013/14.

A very happy Paul James says of the signing: “Alex was a stalwart of our team last year. While we had some players who went up and down in their performances, Alex delivered consistently. I’m thrilled that he’s coming back to the Wolves and especially as several other BBL teams had tried to sign him. This is great testament to the club and where we are going. It’s very important that we are in a position to try and hold on to the most talented of players we are able to recruit. To hang onto a player of Alex’s calibre speaks volumes about the club’s intentions. I will now be looking to build the rest of the team around him”.

In his first season in a Worcester uniform Owumi played the most minutes of any player. He contributed heavily in his time on the court as the top points scorer for the Wolves last term, averaging 19 ppg. He topped the assists averages too at four a game and pulled down more than his fair share of boards with just under seven boards per outing.

Going in to his second year at Worcester, Owumi says: “I’ve really enjoyed being at Worcester and have been pleased with my performances. Having said that, I was disappointed that we didn’t deliver any trophies. I know that we can do better. The Wolves organisation are putting their trust in me and I intend to repay everyone for that faith.”

It’s game on in Worcester this season. Fans will obviously want to see more key signings, but with the attraction of the new venue, and Paul James’ standing in the game they should come. The silverware Owumi talks about, may be a very realistic ambition.
