BBA acquire the services of NBA agent Bill Duffy

ED: It’s been an editorial policy of mine not to give too many column inches to the BBA this summer, as they don’t currently have a competition to go with their organisation. Also, it goes against our modus operandi of supporting the existing setup in British sports to promote an organisation which has regularly sought to undermine The British Basketball League. However, I am conscious that British Basketball fans want to read the latest, ummm, okay we’ll call them developments, and here’s one of British Basketball’s finest, Keith Firmin, with the latest tonight.

The British Basketball Association announced on Twitter tonight, that they have hired respected NBA agent, Bill Duffy, to join the organisation’s Advisory Board.

Duffy will join Dr William Boykin JR,. MD, Rene Carayol, MBE, Leonard Elmore, Dr. Bernard Mullin, Edward Simons, William Strickland, Lynn Swann and the Honourable Robert Peirce on the BBA’s Advisory Board.

BBA Commissioner Ron Scott said of the appointment: “Bill Duffy is one of the most successful and highly respected agents in the business. The BBA will benefit from Bill’s insight and experience in European and American basketball, including the constantly growing pool of talented players and coaches world-wide.”

Duffy brings with him to the BBA over 25 years of related-experience having been drafted by the Denver Nuggets in the 1982 Draft before founding BDA Sports Management, a management group which now represents NBA players including Steve Nash, Rajon Rondo and Joakim Noah.

With the addition of Duffy, the total number of former NBA employees involved with the British Basketball Association now sits at seven, as the organisation continues it’s pursuit of investment while aiming for a date in 2014 for it’s inaugural season.

The credentials of the BBA’s staff have left Duffy feeling positive that the BBA can succeed in becoming the premier professional basketball league in this country.

“The BBA’s investment platform and aggressive approach of seeking the best possible talent in the industry, on and off the court, assures it’s ability to compete at the highest level.”

Despite the scepticism that continues to swirl amongst basketball fans in Britain, there is no denying that the high profile addition of Bill Duffy makes the British Basketball Association an intriguing prospect.
