Andrew Conboy signs for Cardiff Devils

Tough forward Andrew Conboy will join the Cardiff Devils for the 2013/14 season, it has been announced today.

At 6”4’ and 210 pounds, Conboy will add a mixture of skill and physicality to the Devils roster.

The American Power forward was drafted in the 5th round by the Montreal Canadians in 2007, which led to him playing over 150 AHL matches for their affiliate team the Hamilton Bulldogs. He was tipped to be an NHL prospect after thriving in the American League, until a knee injury ended his 2011/12 season early after just 10 games.

Conboy, 25, split last season between the Trenton Titans and the Cincinnati Cyclones of the ECHL, where he accumulated 16 points and 216 penalty minutes in 49 games.

“We first got in contact with Andrew through Craig Weller who played with his brother Tim in the DEL last season and Craig gave Cardiff a great reference as a place to play and live.” said Devils’ Bench Coach Neil Francis “We Kept in contact ever since and we are excited to finally get Andrew to Cardiff. He brings us a Physicality and energy that we need to be successful.

Devils’ MD Brent Pope commented “We are looking to improve in all areas of our club in order to help us be successful. The inclusion of a player like Andrew into our line-up gives us further confidence that we will be better and more physical as a team this season in the BBT.”

The Devils will not be short of physicality this coming season having signed Andrew Lord, Brad Plumton, Adam Ross and now Conboy who are all willing to drop the gloves for their team.

The Devils now need three more import players to complete their roster for the 2013/14 season. A contract offer is out to power forward Max Birbraer, while the Devils are in talks with a netminder and an offensive defenceman.
