EIHL Game Summary: Sheffield Steelers 3 Coventry Blaze 2 (OT)

The Sheffield Steelers found themselves in their seventh Challenge Cup game of the young season tonight, as they hosted the Coventry Blaze at the Motorpoint Arena.

In an up-and-down game the Steelers came out as eventual winners, albeit needing overtime to do it.

In the first period the Steelers’ bad habit of conceding early goals bit them once again, as Coventry went ahead 1-0 through Adam Henrich nine minutes in.

1-0 is exactly how the game would stay until midway through the third period, as the Steelers were finally rewarded for some considerable pressure as Jeff Legue drew the them level.

Sheffield then pressed to find another, and with Coventry down to just four men on the ice, Legue added his second to seemingly give the home side the victory.

The Blaze though weren’t done yet, and Steeler old boy Ashley Tait added another twist to the game, grabbing an equaliser and sending the sides to overtime.

Sudden death though proved too much for the Blaze, as Steelers captain Steven Goertzen stepped up to win the game with a sudden death goal, giving his side a deserved, if hard fought, win.
