BAFA Leagues 2014 Season – Week Three results

In week two there were six shutouts, well in true British American Football fashion that figure was bettered just one week later. There were an amazing eight scoreless teams as the season moves through the gears.

As good place to start our roundup is in the Premier North both games accounted for two of the shutout games. Tamworth Phoenix improved to 2-0 when they blanked Nottingham 56-0. Phoenix have yet to concede in a point in 2014. Coventry Jets got their season under way when they sneaked past Gateshead 14-0.

London Blitz bounced back from their IFAF Champions League defeat to beat the South Wales Warriors 43-0, while the East Kent Mavericks opened their season with a 28-20 win over Cambridge.

Into the National League and the Chester Romans ran matters close again in the North West improving to 2-1 with a 25-22 road win over the Manchester Titans. Merseyside Nighthawks remain unbeaten after beating Walney 33-13, and Staffordshire picked up their first win of the year with a comprehensive 45-6 win in Crewe.

Another division that could prove to be closely fought is the Midlands, and there were two tight games on Sunday. Peterborough held off Shropshire 23-16, and Oxford went 2-0 after a 19-6 win at Lincolnshire.

What is it with Scottish football at the moment? Stirling were crowned BUCS champions last month, East Kilbride ran up 72 points last week only to see that haul bettered this week when Clyde Valley put up 75 unanswered points on Aberdeen. Over in Dundee however it was a much closer affair, the hosts losing out 19-12 to visiting Glasgow.

After last week’s failure to put out a team the London Hornets made their debut. They were in a hole early, down 24-0 after the first period, but even though they were shutout they didn’t let the score get out of hand finishing their first outing 37-0 to Ouse Valley.

Finally down in the South West we had three games, and the three home teams couldn’t register a single point between them. Torbay lost to Bournemouth 26-0, Bristol went down 46-0 to division favourites Solent. Farnham are setting the pace though and are now 2-0, both wins on the road and both times putting up over 50 points. This time it was the Cornish Sharks who were put to the Knights sword.
